Further Information:
This species of weevil has a pear-shaped abdomen, and is somehow different from that of many common weevils which have a linear shape. This weevil was found in arid and stoney ground in Summer at Xlendi, Gozo (Maltese islands). The insect will freeze when touched, a means of self defence to deceive its prey that it captured a an unvaluable food with the hope that it drops the prey. This species was identified from photos by a local entomologist - Dr. David Mifsud.
